Quick Edit Summary (what you need to know fast):
  1. Who pays (Primary): Owner or founder of a Boulder/Denver service business ($150K-$5M revenue), no SEO team, currently guessing at search visibility or running out-of-date tactics.
  2. Urgent problem: They've heard "SEO is dead" or "AI killed search" and don't know whether to believe it or ignore it. Traffic is flat or declining.
  3. Outcome they want: A trustworthy operator who understands both old-school SEO and AI search, shows them exactly what's broken, and fixes it without a long-term contract or agency markup.
  4. Avoid (turn-offs): Agency jargon, vague promises ("we'll 10x your traffic"), dashboards full of vanity metrics, "AI-powered" buzzwords, long lock-in contracts.
  5. Tone: Practitioner-to-practitioner. Real numbers, real case studies, no hype. Annette's voice is the moat: first-person authority, 1995 web era credibility, actual results she owns and can screenshot.

Dual-audience brand. Primary ICP for revenue = Front Range local client (B2B consulting). Secondary ICP for audience growth = solo creator/small business owner nationally (education + Substack).

🏢

Primary ICP: The Front Range Service Business Owner

Confidence: HIGH

Who They Are

  • Age 35-60; sweet spot 40-55. Owner or founder of a service business in Boulder, Denver, Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield, or Front Range adjacent.
  • Verticals: contractors (HVAC, plumbing, landscaping, remodeling), healthcare/wellness (physical therapy, chiropractic, functional medicine, medspa), professional services (law, financial advisory, HR consulting, marketing), and small e-commerce under $2M/yr revenue.
  • Revenue: $150K to $5M/yr. Not a solo freelancer (too price-sensitive). Not a funded startup (has a marketing team already). Staff: 2-25 people. Owner is still making all the marketing calls.
  • They spend on Google Ads and are quietly unsure whether it's worth it compared to organic.
  • They've read about AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and GEO somewhere (probably LinkedIn or a trade publication) and can't tell if they need to act or if it's hype.
  • Previous tool usage: Google Analytics (rarely read), maybe a Semrush or Ahrefs trial they didn't use past month 1, a WordPress site with an SEO plugin set up three years ago.

Urgent Problem

They're paying for Google Ads because they don't trust their organic ranking, and they're not sure whether SEO is worth investing in given everything changing with AI. The "Is SEO dead 2026?" query is the ICP signal: business owners who search this phrase are not curious -- they're evaluating whether to spend money. SEOBeliever's positioning (SEO is not dead; AI changed the rules; here's the proof) is the exact answer this buyer needs.

Pain Points

  • SEO confidence gap -- they've heard conflicting things about whether SEO still works and nobody they trust has given them a straight answer.
  • Agency distrust -- the one SEO quote they got was $3,000-$8,000/month with no clear deliverables and a 6-month lock-in.
  • AI search confusion -- Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, GEO, AEO -- they've seen these terms and can't tell what to do about them.
  • Citation invisibility -- if someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity to recommend a Boulder contractor or Denver physical therapist, they have no idea whether they show up. They suspect they don't.
  • Google Business Profile neglect -- set it up once and haven't touched it. Photos are old. Posts are blank. Q&A is unanswered.
  • Apple Maps nonexistence -- most have never heard of Apple Business Connect.

Desired Outcome (Customer Voice)

"I want to know for certain whether my website is set up to be found -- on Google, on AI search, on Maps -- without paying agency rates or signing a 6-month contract. If someone asks ChatGPT to recommend a plumber / PT / accountant in Boulder, I want my name in the answer. Show me what's broken and how to fix it."

Buying Triggers

  • A competitor gets cited in a ChatGPT or Perplexity response and they notice it.
  • Their Google traffic drops noticeably after an AI Overviews rollout change.
  • They try asking ChatGPT "who are the best [their service] in Boulder" and their name doesn't appear.
  • They're about to renew their Google Ads contract and pause to ask: "Am I doing this in the right order?"
  • They find Annette's Bone Voyage case study and see a real before/after with real numbers.

Willingness to Pay

Updated 2026-07-08 (pricing LOCKED 2026-06-20)

Update, July 8: The original audit/retainer tiers on this page were retired in the June 20 pricing decision. The table below is the current locked ladder. Full detail lives on the Offering & Pricing page.

Rung Price What It Buys Why It Works
AI Citation Snapshot Free Graded snapshot of how the business shows up in Google and AI answers (V2 fully-graded format) Zero-friction door opener. Already built for Evolution Dermatology, Yamashiro Orthodontics, and Boulder Dental Arts.
Sprint $4,500 (one-time) Focused fix-and-build engagement off the Snapshot's findings One clear price, one clear outcome. Replaces the old audit + Blueprint + Buildout stack.
Monitoring $1,500/mo Ongoing rank + AI citation monitoring and maintenance after a Sprint Recurring floor that compounds as clients accumulate.
Campaign add-ons À la carte Citation packs, guest posts, HARO, and similar per-scope campaigns Entry point for buyers who want something specific done without a Sprint.

Math: Annette's $6,500/mo income target works out to roughly 4-5 Monitoring clients, or a Sprint plus 3 Monitoring clients in any given month.

Rebuilding Seminars: Live Laboratory Confirmed

Updated May 28, 2026

RebuildingSeminars.com is an active proof-of-concept case study for SEO, GEO, and local SEO skills. It is NOT just a ghost-writing client. It is a live laboratory that Annette can document and publish results from.

The case study will demonstrate:

  • Local SEO for a service business (divorce recovery seminars, Front Range)
  • GEO optimization: getting cited in AI search results for relevant queries
  • Measurable before/after ranking and traffic data Annette can publish

This makes it a stronger proof asset than a standard client engagement. A standard client has confidentiality expectations. A case study you control can be published with full data, screenshots, and methodology -- the exact format that builds credibility with both ICPs.

Publishing strategy: Even a 60-day progress snapshot with real numbers is useful. The Bone Voyage case study (DR 0 to DR 62) is the template. Rebuilding Seminars becomes the local-SEO parallel.

✍️

Secondary ICP: The Solo Creator or Small Business Owner (National)

Confidence: HIGH on shape

Note: This ICP does not primarily pay for consulting. They are the Substack audience, the blog readers, the AI citation multipliers, and the eventual referral sources. They may upgrade to a paid audit or retainer if they're running a business alongside their creator work.

Who They Are

  • Age 28-55; no geographic concentration. Probably US, UK, or Australia.
  • Solo creator, Substack writer, course creator, or freelance consultant who generates some or all of their income from digital content.
  • Also includes: solo service business owner (copywriter, designer, coach) who knows they should do SEO but finds it confusing.
  • They publish on Substack, Ghost, or a personal blog. They care about Google finding their content. They don't know if AI search is finding it.
  • Income range: $30K-$150K/yr from their creator work. Not wealthy enough to hire an SEO agency; smart enough to want to learn.

Urgent Problem

They're publishing but not being found. They're not sure if that's a content problem, an SEO problem, or an AI search problem. Every explainer they find is either too basic ("add keywords to your headline!") or written for enterprise teams.

Desired Outcome

"I want my Substack to show up when people Google the things I write about. And I want to understand how AI search is different from Google so I can stop guessing. I don't want to become an SEO expert -- I want the 5-hour-a-week version that actually moves the needle."
💬

Messaging That Works

Both ICPs

Phrases that land

  • "I watched a dog rescue go from invisible to DR 62 without a single paid link. The same principles apply to your business."
  • "Most of what you've read about SEO being dead was written by people who were doing it wrong."
  • "Before I tell you what's broken, let me show you what I've actually ranked."
  • "I'll tell you in 30 minutes whether you have a real SEO problem or an ads problem or a content problem. Free call. No proposal at the end unless you ask for one."

Best promise

"In 30 minutes, I'll tell you exactly where your site sits on Google, AI search, and Maps -- what's working, what's costing you, and what one thing I'd fix first. No pitch at the end unless you ask. If we're a fit, I'll send a scope document. If we're not, I'll tell you that too and point you somewhere useful."

Words and phrases to avoid

  • "Transform your business" (generic)
  • "AI-powered SEO" (triggers skepticism)
  • "Proven framework" (sounds like a course-seller pitch)
  • "10x your traffic" (unqualifiable)
  • "We" language on a solo practice (she is SEO Believer; "we" implies a team that doesn't exist)

Main Objections + Response Strategy

Sales guidance
Objection Response Strategy
"I heard SEO is dead." Show the Bone Voyage before/after. "That's the right question. SEO isn't dead -- the version that relied on gaming Google is dead."
"I can't afford an agency." "I'm not an agency. Your Snapshot is free, a Sprint is one fixed price, and monitoring is $1,500/mo -- less than what most agencies charge for a single month of reports you can't act on."
"I already have someone doing my SEO." "Do you know if they're optimizing for AI search? Do you know if you appear in ChatGPT or Perplexity results for your category in Boulder?"
"I tried SEO before and it didn't work." Show the Rebuilding Seminars case study data once it exists. "The difference is usually what came before the content, not the content itself."
"Can I just do this myself?" "Yes, and if you want to, I'll point you to where to start for free. If you want someone to do it alongside you or for you, that's a different conversation."
🚫

Bad-Fit Customers: Don't Sell To

Hard stops
  • Businesses that expect overnight results and frame their timeline as "we need to rank in 30 days or we're out."
  • Businesses that have zero existing content and want SEO to replace a content strategy (SEO amplifies content; it can't substitute for it).
  • Businesses run by someone who wants to argue about whether SEO works instead of implementing it.
  • Businesses in active agency relationships where the agency controls the site and will block or override any technical changes.
  • Prospects who negotiate aggressively on price before seeing any deliverable (signals they won't value the output).

Open Questions for Annette

Needs ratification
  1. Service boundary for creators vs. local businesses: Is the Substack/creator education audience a lead-gen play only (they read the blog, they don't become clients) or is she genuinely open to consulting engagements for creators?
  2. Pricing validation: RESOLVED 2026-06-20. Pricing is locked at Free Snapshot, $4,500 Sprint, $1,500/mo Monitoring. The remaining open question is conversion: three Snapshots are built, and outreach is the current bottleneck.
  3. Geographic focus for paid consulting: CLAUDE.md says Front Range, but the Substack audience is national. Is there a threshold (say, $3,000/mo or above) at which she'll take a remote consulting engagement outside Boulder/Denver?
