Keyword Targets: Three-Tier Plan
Compiled: 2026-05-09 Method: Search volume estimates triangulated from competitor positioning, WebSearch result depth (number of agencies fighting for the term), and published industry benchmarks. Where exact Ahrefs/Semrush data isn't available without paid-tool access, the estimate is annotated (estimated). Difficulty is on a 0-100 scale (Ahrefs convention). Phase 6 of the bootstrap will replace estimates with measured values once a paid tracking tool is in place.
How to read this file. Tier 1 keywords are the long-game prize: high-intent, high-difficulty, multi-quarter to win. Tier 2 keywords are the 90-day target: aligned with SEO Believer's GEO-first positioning, much lower competition, where we can actually break in. Tier 3 keywords are content magnets: pure long-tail, the pieces that earn AI citations and backlinks even if they never crack page one of Google. Build all three tiers in parallel. Don't skip Tier 3 just because the volume looks small, those pages do most of the AI-citation work.
Tier 1: Foundational (high-intent, hard, multi-quarter)
These are the keywords that will eventually convert paying clients. They're saturated and a brand-new domain won't crack page one for them in 90 days. Build them as the gravity well, every Tier 2 and Tier 3 piece links back to a Tier 1 service or location page so authority compounds toward them.
| Keyword | Est. monthly volume | Difficulty | Current top result | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEO consultant Boulder | 200-400 (estimated) | 45-55 | boulderseomarketing.com | Raulf owns this. SEO Believer target: page 2 by day 90, page 1 by day 180. |
| Boulder SEO | 800-1,500 (estimated) | 55-65 | boulderseomarketing.com | Highest-volume Boulder term. Heavily defended. Long-game. |
| SEO Denver | 1,200-2,500 (estimated) | 60-70 | v9digital.com / altitudeseo.com | Saturated by V9 (since 2006), Altitude (17+ yrs), SEO Denver AI. Won't crack top 10 in 90 days. |
| local SEO Boulder Colorado | 100-250 (estimated) | 40-50 | boulderseomarketing.com/local-seo-a-comprehensive-guide/ | Their pillar piece holds it. Beatable with a deeper, fresher pillar. |
| SEO agency Denver | 500-900 (estimated) | 55-65 | builtincolorado.com / v9digital.com | "Agency" frame favors multi-employee shops. SEO Believer's wedge is "consultant" not "agency", softer on this term. |
Plan for Tier 1.
- Build out the Boulder, Denver, and Longmont location pages (Phase 2) with depth, 600-1,000 words, unique market commentary per CLAUDE.md §4.3.
- Build the service detail pages (Local SEO, AI Search Optimization, Technical SEO Audit) with proper H1/H2 keyword targeting.
- Internal-link every Tier 2 and Tier 3 piece back to the corresponding Tier 1 service or location page.
- Don't optimize for these terms in the homepage title, the homepage is for the brand. Optimize the service and location pages for these terms.
Tier 2: Winnable (lower volume, much less competition, perfectly aligned)
This is the 90-day target tier. These are the queries where SEO Believer's GEO-first, plain-spoken, named-human positioning can actually break in. The Front Range "AI SEO" / "GEO" niche has only one dominant name (Raulf) and a few weaker ones (SEO Denver AI, Tactical SEO). A solo consultant with verifiable proof points and clean GEO content can credibly take #2 or #3 within a quarter.
| Keyword | Est. monthly volume | Difficulty | Current top result | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI search optimization Boulder | 30-80 (estimated) | 25-35 | boulderseomarketing.com (their explainer page) | Almost no one is fighting for this exact phrase. Page-one in 60 days is realistic. |
| GEO consultant Colorado | 20-60 (estimated) | 20-30 | boulderseomarketing.com / appwt.com / sessioninteractive.com | Tiny field. Even fewer named consultants. Wide-open. |
| AI SEO consultant Front Range | 10-30 (estimated) | 15-25 | (no dominant page, fragmented) | Effectively unowned. SEO Believer can claim it. |
| ChatGPT SEO consultant Denver | 20-50 (estimated) | 20-30 | seodenver.ai / scattered | A pure GEO play with Denver geo modifier. Specific, low-competition. |
| generative engine optimization Boulder | 10-30 (estimated) | 15-25 | boulderseomarketing.com/what-is-generative-engine-optimization/ | Their definitional page holds it; a deeper Boulder-specific GEO piece can challenge. |
| AI SEO Boulder | 50-120 (estimated) | 30-40 | boulderseomarketing.com | Higher volume than the more specific phrases. Raulf-owned. Realistic page-two by day 90, page-one by day 120. |
| GEO Colorado | 15-40 (estimated) | 15-25 | boulderseomarketing.com | Two-word phrase, very small. SEO Believer can take this in 60 days with one good cornerstone. |
| AI search optimization Denver | 30-80 (estimated) | 25-35 | seodenver.ai | Beatable with depth + named-author signal. |
Plan for Tier 2.
- Phase 4 cornerstone piece "Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): The Complete Guide for Local Businesses (2026)" is the Tier 2 anchor. It targets
generative engine optimization, ranks in the AI/GEO knowledge cluster, and earns citations. - Each Tier 2 keyword gets either a service-detail page (for transactional intent) or a cornerstone article (for informational intent).
- The "AI Search Optimization" service detail page should target
AI search optimization Boulder,AI SEO Boulder, andGEO consultant Coloradosimultaneously through proper H2 structure. - Date-stamp every page and update
dateModifiedquarterly. AI engines reward freshness for AI/GEO topics specifically because the field is moving fast.
Tier 3: Long-tail content magnets
These don't win by volume, they win by citation count. Each one is a specific question someone types into ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google. Earn citations on these pages and the cumulative effect lifts the whole domain. Per the WebSearch data: pages with original data tables earn 4.1x more AI citations; Q&A formats outperform; over 65% of AI citations come from third-party-style content (educational, structured, dated).
| Keyword | Est. monthly volume | Difficulty | Current top result | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| how to optimize for ChatGPT search | 200-500 (estimated) | 30-40 | firstpagesage.com / seosherpa.com (multiple equally-cited) | Crowded but no dominant winner. Cornerstone-level piece (3,000+ words) can break in. |
| what is generative engine optimization | 500-1,500 (estimated) | 35-45 | searchengineland.com / hubspot.com / frase.io | Bigger field; a Boulder-specific framing ("GEO for Front Range businesses") gives a niche angle to win on. |
| Google Business Profile setup Boulder | 30-100 (estimated) | 20-30 | scattered (no dominant page) | Local-modifier long-tail, very winnable. Pure citation magnet. |
| Apple Business Connect for service businesses | 100-300 (estimated) | 25-35 | get.nicejob.com / uberall.com | Per CLAUDE.md §4.1: Apple Business Connect is the most underused local SEO channel; cornerstone piece here gets cited because nobody else has written it deeply. |
| llms.txt file explained | 200-600 (estimated) | 25-35 | neilpatel.com / semrush.com / bluehost.com / hostinger.com | Owned by big-domain explainer pages. SEO Believer's angle: a demonstration (live llms.txt on seobeliever.com) plus a teardown of why current adoption is low. |
| how to rank in Google AI Overviews | 300-800 (estimated) | 35-45 | firstpagesage.com / searchengineland.com | Crowded. Differentiator: include actual screenshots of AI Overview citations the writer (Annette) earned, named clients, named queries. |
| how to get cited by Perplexity | 100-300 (estimated) | 25-35 | scattered | Specific platform, specific outcome. Strong citation magnet. |
| AI SEO for small business 2026 | 200-500 (estimated) | 30-40 | scattered | Generic enough to compete on; year-stamped phrase keeps freshness. |
| GEO vs SEO difference | 400-900 (estimated) | 30-40 | sharpinnovations.com / frase.io | Definitional piece. Depth + comparison table beats most competitors. |
| Boulder service business SEO checklist | 20-60 (estimated) | 15-25 | (no dominant page) | Pure citation magnet. List-format piece for Boulder-area service businesses. |
Plan for Tier 3.
- These are the content cadence pieces (Phase 4.4, one piece every two weeks for the first 90 days).
- Each one needs the WRITER-BRIEF.md treatment: 2,500-4,000 words, original framework, named examples, FAQ section phrased as a buyer would query, internal links to relevant Tier 1 service/location pages.
- Don't skip the original framework on Tier 3 pieces, that's where they earn citations. AI engines preferentially cite content with named, defensible structures (e.g., "The Citation Triangle," "The Three Tiers of AI Search Visibility").
- Refresh
dateModifiedon every Tier 3 piece every 90 days. Even a small content tweak counts.

What gets measured weekly (Phase 6 input)
Once Phase 6 (AI citation tracking + local rank tracking) is live, the weekly tracking sheet runs all three tiers above through:
- Standard rank tracker (SerpRobot or similar), captures organic position for every keyword.
- Geo-grid Maps tracker (Local Falcon or BrightLocal), captures Maps-pack position from multiple Boulder/Denver geo-points for the Tier 1 keywords.
- AI citation script (Phase 6.1), runs the keywords as natural-language queries through ChatGPT API, Claude API, Gemini, Perplexity weekly. Logs full responses, flags any "SEO Believer" / "Annette Thompson" / "seobeliever.com" mention.
The same 30 keywords below feed all three trackers. That's the working list:
TIER 1 (5 keywords):
- SEO consultant Boulder
- Boulder SEO
- SEO Denver
- local SEO Boulder Colorado
- SEO agency Denver
TIER 2 (8 keywords):
- AI search optimization Boulder
- GEO consultant Colorado

- "Boulder SEO consultant who came from medical technology"

That's the weekly automated run. Phase 6 builds it; Phase 1 specifies it.
