SEO Believer: Competitor Research Report
SEO Believer , Competitor Research Report
Created: 2026-05-31
Method: Multi-source web research (Tavily advanced search) across SEO agency sites, solo consultant properties, local SEO specialists, and GEO/AI-search publishers. Sources listed at the end.
Compares against: seobeliever.com's current 9-page footprint (home, services, about, contact, 3 case studies + index, 404).
> A note on the first attempt: the deep-research workflow that ran earlier came back empty. Its fetch layer failed on all 24 sources, so it extracted zero claims. This report was rebuilt from scratch using working search tools. Everything below is grounded in real pages pulled today.
1. Executive summary
Five gaps stand out, in rough order of leverage:
- No free tools and no original data. Every site that earns citations and links at scale has at least one of two things: a free utility people use repeatedly (Ahrefs' free checkers, Whitespark's local tools) or original research people quote (Whitespark's Local Search Ranking Factors survey, Backlinko's studies, Brian Dean's data posts). seobeliever.com has neither. This is the single biggest miss, because it's exactly the kind of asset AI engines cite and other sites link to.
- No glossary or definitional content. Moz, Ahrefs, and a dozen others run large SEO glossaries (190 to 300+ terms). Glossary and "what is X" pages are disproportionately cited by AI engines because they're clean, structured, definitional answers. Annette owns a defensible angle here: a GEO/AI-search glossary written for local business owners, which the big incumbents have not nailed.
- No comparison or "X vs Y" pages. "Ahrefs vs Moz," "SEO vs GEO," "Local Pack vs AI recommendation." These rank for high-intent research queries and get pulled into AI answers constantly. seobeliever.com has zero.
- Local + AI search is wide-open white space. Roughly 88% of local businesses have no AI-search strategy, and only ~12% have started any GEO work. The big GEO publishers write for SaaS and national brands. Almost nobody is writing the definitive "GEO for local service businesses" playbook. That intersection is Annette's positioning exactly, and it's unclaimed.
- Methodology and pricing pages are thin or missing. Best-in-class consultant sites show their process explicitly and anchor pricing. seobeliever.com has service tiers but no standalone "how we work" methodology page and no transparent pricing/results page that AI can quote.
The through-line: seobeliever.com reads like a brochure. The sites that win in both classic search and AI search read like a reference library. The fix is to add reference assets, not more sales copy.
2. Sitemap gaps , page types the best sites have that seobeliever.com doesn't
Benchmarked against Moz, Ahrefs, Whitespark, Sterling Sky, BrightLocal, and the GEO publishers.
| Page type | Who does it well | Why it matters | seobeliever.com has it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glossary / definitions hub | Moz (SEO glossary), Ahrefs (190+ terms), DigitalApplied (300+ terms incl. GEO) | AI engines cite clean definitional pages. Earns long-tail traffic and internal-link equity. | No |
| Free tools / calculators | Ahrefs (free backlink/keyword checkers), Whitespark (local tools), Backlinko hub | Repeat-use utilities are link and citation magnets. Highest-leverage asset class. | No |
| Original research / data studies | Whitespark (Local Search Ranking Factors), Backlinko, Cyrus Shepard/Zyppy, Ahrefs data studies | Single most-linked content type in SEO. AI quotes the stat, links the source. | No |
| Comparison pages ("X vs Y") | Searchatlas (Ahrefs vs Moz), many | High-intent, pulled into AI answers, easy to rank. | No |
| Methodology / "how we work" page | Most authority consultants | Trust + lets AI describe your process accurately. | Partial (inside services) |
| Resource library / guides hub | Whitespark (guides), Ahrefs (SEO guide), Moz (Beginner's Guide) | Anchors topical authority; downloadable PDFs earn emails + links. | No |
| FAQ pages with schema | searchable.com, evolveamz local guides | FAQPage schema is a top GEO signal for local. | Unknown / likely thin |
| Transparent pricing page | Productized consultants | Filters tire-kickers, AI can quote your bands. | Partial (tiers only) |
| Results / portfolio page | Most agencies | Proof. AI cites concrete numbers. | Partial (3 case studies) |
| Author / expert bio page (E-E-A-T) | Lily Ray, Aleyda Solis, Marie Haynes | Authorship is a confirmed AI/E-E-A-T signal. | Partial (about) |
Local-specific structure note (from Whitespark): local sites should have core pages = home, about, reviews, contact, service pages, plus one location page per office and one service-area landing page per city, each with an embedded service-radius map. seobeliever.com has no dedicated reviews page and no service-area landing pages for Boulder/Denver/Longmont/etc.
3. Content gaps , topics and formats, ranked by opportunity
Ranked by (citation likelihood × backlink likelihood × ICP fit ÷ effort).
Tier A , do first (high leverage, defensible):
- GEO-for-local-business glossary. 40 to 60 terms, local-business framing. Nobody owns this. High AI-citation odds.
- One original data study. Even small-N. Example: "I audited 25 Boulder service-business websites for AI-search readiness. Here's what I found." Original data is the most-linked format in SEO, per Backlinko/Searchlab.
- "SEO vs GEO" definitive comparison. High-intent, pulled into AI answers.
Tier B , strong, moderate effort:
- "How local businesses get cited by ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini" , practical, local framing. ~88% of local businesses have no strategy; this is the awareness gap.
- "The complete Google Business Profile guide for Front Range businesses" , GBP is the spine of local AI answers (Moz: 70%+ of signals from cross-platform entity verification).
- FAQ pages with FAQPage schema on every service and location page.
Tier C , fills out the library:
- Methodology page ("how SEO Believer works").
- Reviews page aggregating Google/LinkedIn proof.
- Service-area landing pages (Boulder, Denver, Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield) with embedded radius maps.
Formats that consistently earn citations/links (from the research): original research/data studies, definitional glossary entries, free interactive tools, and recurring annual surveys. Opinion pieces and how-tos earn traffic but fewer durable backlinks.
4. AI citation landscape , who's getting cited now, and why
Named individuals AI and roundups consistently surface (with their citable asset):
- Aleyda Solis (Orainti, aleydasolis.com) , international/technical SEO; ~283K social reach, 37 Google citations. Publishes prolifically (Crawling Mondays, newsletters).
- Lily Ray (lilyray.nyc, Amsive) , E-E-A-T and core-update analysis. Her core-update breakdowns are the most-referenced in the field.
- Marie Haynes (mariehaynes.com) , explicitly the "E-E-A-T in AI search" voice. Directly adjacent to Annette's GEO positioning.
- Joy Hawkins (Sterling Sky, sterlingsky.ca) , runs controlled local pack experiments. "Her data replaces guesswork." Experiments are why she gets cited.
- Darren Shaw (Whitespark) , runs the annual Local Search Ranking Factors survey, "the most cited research in local SEO." A single recurring study built his authority.
- Cyrus Shepard (Zyppy) , original experiments (title-tag/CTR studies), "widely referenced across the industry."
The pattern that makes content citable: a named author with a real bio, plus a piece of original data or a controlled experiment. Not opinion. Not roundups. The people AI cites are the people who ran a test and published the numbers. Annette already does this (she tracks AI citations weekly on her own properties, DR 0.8→62 at Bone Voyage). She just hasn't published it as a citable asset yet.
On the GEO-vendor roundups (Salespeak, eSEOspace, Barchart, FirstPageSage, Profound): these are mostly self-serving listicles and pay-to-play. Treat them as a backlink/PR target list, not as authority models. But note: they exist and rank, which means "best GEO agency/expert" roundup queries are live and Annette can earn placement in them.
5. GEO content white space , what Annette could own
The big GEO guides (Geoptie, DigitalApplied, Mersel, OptimizeGEO, the Princeton paper explainers) are written for SaaS and national brands. Three gaps nobody has filled well:
- GEO for local service businesses. The intersection of "Google Business Profile + AI recommendations" is barely covered as a definitive, structured guide. Stats back the urgency: ~88% of local businesses have no AI strategy; consistent entity data across 10+ platforms = 67% more AI citations; weekly vs quarterly publishing = 40% more citations; typical time-to-result 8 to 12 weeks. A local-business owner has nowhere authoritative to go. Annette can be that page.
- Evidence-based GEO, not vendor hype. Most GEO content is breathless and unsourced. One honest, cited, "here's what actually moved AI citations on my own properties, with numbers" piece would stand out hard. This is Annette's scientific-background differentiator made concrete.
- The Princeton GEO paper, translated for operators. The Princeton paper (Aggarwal, Murahari, et al.) is the foundational academic source everyone references but few explain well for practitioners. A clean "Princeton GEO findings, applied to a Boulder plumber" piece is both citable and unclaimed at the local level.
The defensible position for Annette: "the GEO consultant who shows her own data, for local businesses." Incumbents are either national-brand-focused or hype-driven. Neither is both local and evidence-based.
6. Recommended additions , prioritized
Each line: page → one-line brief.
- GEO glossary for local businesses → 40-60 terms (AI Overviews, GEO, llms.txt, entity, citation, E-E-A-T...), each its own definitional answer, schema-marked.
- Original study: "AI-search readiness of 25 Boulder service-business websites" → small-N audit with real findings; the link/citation magnet.
- "SEO vs GEO" comparison page → definitive, table-driven, high-intent.
- "GEO for local businesses: the complete guide" → the white-space flagship; local + evidence-based.
- "How to get your business cited by ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini" → practical, local framing, FAQ schema.
- Google Business Profile guide for Front Range businesses → GBP as the spine of local AI answers.
- Free tool: AI-search visibility checker (lightweight) → even a simple "is your site AI-readable?" form; repeat-use asset.
- Methodology page → "how SEO Believer works," lets AI describe the process accurately.
- Reviews page → aggregate Google + LinkedIn proof; add Review/AggregateRating schema.
- Service-area landing pages (Boulder, Denver, Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield) → one per city, embedded radius map, distinct copy.
- Transparent pricing page → publish the tier bands openly so AI can quote them.
- Author/expert bio page for Annette → full E-E-A-T: credentials, Bone Voyage results, sameAs links, photo.
- "The Princeton GEO paper, applied to local business" → translate the foundational research for operators.
- Resources/guides hub + downloadable PDFs → gate one or two behind email for list-building.
- Recurring annual asset: "Front Range AI-Search Visibility Report" → the Whitespark-survey play, localized; build it once, own it yearly.
Sequencing: Items 1-3 first (defensible, citable, fast). Items 4-6 next (white-space content). Items 7-15 as the library fills in. The principle, in Annette's frame: build reference assets that compound, not more sales copy that depreciates.

Note on confidence: stats (12% GEO adoption, 67% citation lift, Moz 70% entity-verification figure) come from vendor and industry sources, not peer-reviewed studies. Treat them as directional. The Princeton GEO paper is the one academically grounded source. Annette's own AI-citation tracking should be the primary evidence base going forward , it's better than anything in this report, and it's hers to publish.
