SEO Believer: Colorado Competitor Scorecard
Colorado Competitor Scorecard
For seobeliever.com (Annette Thompson, solo consultant, Boulder/Denver)
0. What this is built on, and what it isn't
This rests on three competitor teardowns: Tactical SEO Consulting, Subsilio Consulting, and Volume Nine. Those three are the right kind of target. None is a tool like Ahrefs or SEMrush, and all three have a real Colorado footprint. But three is a sample, not a survey of the whole field.
That distinction matters because it shapes how much weight any "the market is wide open" conclusion can carry. When I say none of these three holds the north Front Range, that is exactly what I mean: none of these three. It is not proof that nobody competes for Boulder, Longmont, or Louisville. There are almost certainly solo consultants, freelancers, and resellers I didn't sample. Read every "open" or "unclaimed" line below as "unclaimed by the three competitors in this sample," not as a settled fact about the metro. Confirming the fuller field is its own piece of work.
1. The competitive reality (within this sample)
The three most visible names I looked at are less formidable as a group than their longevity suggests, though one of them is genuinely strong.
Two of the three aren't really Boulder businesses. Tactical SEO Consulting runs out of Monument in the Colorado Springs metro and uses a geo-swap template to project local presence in Boulder, Broomfield, Loveland, and a handful of Arizona towns. Subsilio is a real Denver agency, but SEO is one of five services and it has never published a single quantified result. Only Volume Nine is a serious operator across the board, and even Volume Nine has no Boulder page at all.
So this sample breaks into two groups. There's one genuinely strong competitor (Volume Nine) with twenty years of history, real named clients, and shipped GEO infrastructure. Then there are two templated or unproven shops that rank today mostly because they've existed longer than November 2026, not because the work is demonstrably better. In that second group the quality bar is low and the trust bar is lower, with both leaning on unverifiable superlatives ("99% success rate," "15+ years") and no local proof.
The honest read, limited to these three: one hard competitor, two soft ones, and a north Front Range geography that none of the three covers.
2. Competitor table
| Competitor | Colorado focus | GEO maturity | Biggest strength | Biggest weakness | Threat level |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tactical SEO Consulting | Monument HQ (Colo. Springs metro). Boulder page is a geo-swap template. Serves "Colorado, Arizona, nationwide." | Genuinely mature. Dedicated GEO page, per-platform strategy, full schema stack, "we retest monthly" posture. | Real GEO depth plus aggressive conversion (published price bands, repeated CTAs). | Not Boulder-local. No Boulder address, phone, neighborhoods, or named local clients. Unverifiable trust claims. | Medium |
| Subsilio Consulting | Real Denver address (700 N. Colorado Blvd). Denver-only, no other Front Range cities. | Buzzword-deep only. Names AEO and "LLM-SEO," blogs about it, but no llms.txt, no demonstrated citations, heavy slow WordPress/Divi build. | Entrenched Denver local foundations: consistent NAP, established domain since ~2022, Clutch profile. | Zero quantified proof. Generalist (SEO is 1 of 5). Keyword-stuffed filler. No pricing clarity. | Medium |
| Volume Nine (V9 Digital) | Real Denver HQ (1312 17th St). Denver-only. No Boulder/Longmont/Louisville/Lafayette/Broomfield/Niwot pages. | Very high. /services/geo, "Appear in ChatGPT" lander, free GEO Grader tool, published llms.txt, /ai-instructions page, AI-attributed revenue case studies ($11K ChatGPT, $20K AI sales). | Strong quantified proof at scale: 25+ case studies, hard numbers, enterprise logos, 20 years, third-party review badges. | No north Front Range coverage. GEO proof skews ecommerce/B2B, thin on local service-business AI citation. No named founder-expert voice. | High |
3. The GEO gap
Of the three, two do GEO seriously and one only talks about it.
- Volume Nine is the real thing: shipped llms.txt, an /ai-instructions page courting crawlers, a free GEO Grader tool, and case studies with actual AI-attributed revenue. This is much of what the SEO Believer brief plans to build, already live and already proven.
- Tactical SEO is also genuinely mature on GEO, with per-platform strategy and a full schema stack. But they show no evidence of being cited themselves. They claim the capability without proving it on their own brand.
- Subsilio is GEO in name only. They name-drop AEO and LLM-SEO, but there's no llms.txt, no demonstrated citation, and a heavy WordPress build that's harder for AI crawlers to parse than a fast static site.
So the GEO opening within this sample isn't "nobody does this." Volume Nine does it well. The opening is narrower: among these three, nobody proves GEO on their own brand, and nobody does it for local Boulder service businesses. Tactical claims GEO but shows no self-citation. Volume Nine's AI proof is ecommerce and B2B. None of the three runs a transparent, public, weekly AI-citation tracker that makes its own brand the case study. That's the slot the Phase 6 tracking system is designed to fill, and within this sample it's open.
One caution worth stating now, because it shapes the whole strategy: that self-proof tracker is the strongest differentiator on offer, and also the most copyable. Volume Nine already has shipped llms.txt and an /ai-instructions page. If they noticed the local-service-business angle, they could stand up a public citation tracker quickly. The moat here is execution speed and consistency, not the idea itself. Treat the window as real but temporary.
4. What they all have that seobeliever.com lacks
These are table stakes against this specific cohort, not against Ahrefs or SEMrush. A November-2026 startup is missing them and should close them deliberately.
| Table stake | Tactical | Subsilio | Volume Nine | seobeliever.com today |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Established domain age / history | 15+ yrs claimed | Since ~2022 | 20 yrs | Brand new (Nov 2026) |
| Third-party review presence (Clutch/Google/Capterra) | Clutch + dormant YouTube | Clutch + Facebook | Google + Clutch + Capterra badges | None yet |
| Named client case studies with numbers | Vertical-level only | None | 25+ with hard metrics | One unproven client (Rebuilding) |
| Consistent published NAP / local address | Monument NAP | Real Denver NAP | Real Denver NAP | Address/service-area not yet decided |
| Live GEO infrastructure (llms.txt, schema) | Full stack shipped | Partial/none | Full stack shipped | Not yet built |
| Pricing signal on site | Bands published (GEO page) | FAQ ranges only | Honest market table | None yet |
| Volume of indexed pages | ~37 URLs | Moderate | 100+ URLs | Near zero |
The pattern: every competitor in this sample has been alive longer, which buys domain trust, review accumulation, and indexed surface area. That's the one thing money and effort can't instantly replicate. Everything else on this list is buildable inside the 90-day plan.
5. Where seobeliever.com stands
The critique's most useful point: a brand-new, one-client business has a couple of real edges today and several more that the plan has to create. Mixing those two categories is how you end up claiming results you don't have. So this section is split.
5a. Edges I have today
- One verifiable result beats a pile of superlatives. Tactical's "99% success rate" and Subsilio's first-name testimonials with no numbers are exactly the empty claims a documented win replaces. Bone Voyage from DR 0.8 to 62 on zero paid ads, with 4,000 dogs placed, is a real number with a real method behind it. The honest caveat: Bone Voyage is dog rescue, not Front Range local service-business SEO, so it's adjacent proof, not in-category proof. Volume Nine can counter that its revenue case studies are in-category. The win is real and it's mine right now, but it isn't airtight.
- Founder-as-named-expert is uncontested in this sample. None of the three leads with a credentialed, bylined human. Tactical is faceless. Subsilio's founders are described as "ride-or-dies" with no bios. Volume Nine has a team page but no marquee expert voice. A Medical Technology and Biochemistry background attached to bylined GEO writing and HARO citations is an E-E-A-T signal I can use today, and one the three sampled competitors leave on the table. The narrow caveat: I only sampled three, so there may well be solo Front Range consultants who do lead with a face.
5b. Edges the plan has to create
These are not present-tense advantages. They're targets the 90-day plan converts into edges. Right now they're potential, not held ground.
- Boulder proximity, once the location and GBP are real. A genuinely Boulder-based consultant should win GBP proximity and 3-pack relevance for Boulder queries against Denver-only shops. But my own table above says the address/service-area is not yet decided and the GBP is unverified. You can't win proximity with an undecided address and an unverified profile. This becomes a real edge only after the Phase 3 decision and verification land. Until then it's latent.
- The north Front Range, once the pages exist. None of the three covers Boulder, Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield, or Niwot with honest, hand-written pages. Six real location pages would take ground these three don't hold. Two conditions: I have to confirm others aren't already holding it (the n=3 limit), and I have to actually write six genuinely useful, non-duplicated pages, which the brief itself flags as hard. Today I hold zero pages, so this is a plan, not a position.
- Self-proof in GEO, once the tracker runs. A public, weekly AI-citation tracker that makes seobeliever.com its own case study is something none of the three does. It's also the Phase 6 deliverable that doesn't exist yet, and (per Section 3) the most copyable by Volume Nine. Strong strategy, genuinely open slot, zero weeks of evidence so far. It becomes a win after it has run long enough to show citations, not before.
- The SMB tier these agencies price out. Tactical's floor is $4K to $30K+ a month with a six-month minimum. Volume Nine frames $2K to $5K as "typical" and warns against anything cheaper. So the serious-but-not-enterprise Boulder business at $2K to $5K is dismissed by the agencies in this sample, and I can serve it with senior, founder-led attention. The honest narrowing: this is "the agencies I sampled price out the SMB," not "the SMB band is wide open." The sub-$2K space is one of the most crowded corners of all of marketing (Fiverr, white-label resellers, local freelancers, site-builder upsells), and I didn't sample any of them.
6. Positioning sharpened
Most SEO shops on the Front Range either aren't really here or can't really prove it. The biggest names run out of Denver or Colorado Springs and have never written an honest word about Boulder. The loudest ones lean on numbers like "99% success" that nobody can check. I do the opposite, and I want to be careful to claim only what's already true. I'm a new business with one client and a track record from an adjacent field, not a twenty-year agency. What I bring is a scientific background to a field that mostly runs on hunches, a real and verifiable arc behind me (a rescue that climbed from a domain rating of 0.8 to 62 on zero paid advertising), and a founder who does the work herself instead of handing it to a junior. The plan adds the rest: a Boulder presence the big agencies don't have, honest location pages for towns they ignore, and a public weekly record of where AI search engines cite my own work. The idea is to prove the method on my own business before I sell it to anyone, and to say plainly which parts of that proof exist today and which are still being built.
