Colorado SEO/GEO Companies: Deep Dive (11 firms)

Created: 2026-05-31

For: seobeliever.com (Annette Thompson, solo consultant, Boulder/Denver)

Method: Live research via Tavily and WebSearch on each firm's own site plus third-party directories. Eleven Colorado-focused SEO/GEO firms profiled. Tool companies (Ahrefs, Moz, etc.), pure listicles, and national-only agencies are deliberately excluded.

Executive read

The Colorado SEO field is crowded but shallow on the one thing that's about to matter most. Most of these firms are competent local-SEO shops that have simply existed longer than November 2026, which buys them domain age, reviews, and indexed pages, not better work. On GEO and AI search, the field splits hard: a few firms (Volume Nine, Boulder SEO Marketing, Webolutions, Firestarter, Taylor Scher) ship or sell it for real, and the rest either name-drop the buzzwords or ignore it entirely. The single clearest opening for Annette isn't "nobody does GEO," because some do it well. It's that nobody in this field proves AI-search results on their own brand, in public, for local service businesses. That's the receipt none of them can show, and it's the one she's built to produce.

The GEO maturity spectrum

Ships real GEO (the serious tier):

  • Volume Nine is the benchmark. Published llms.txt, an /ai-instructions page courting AI crawlers, a free "GEO Grader" tool, and case studies with AI-attributed revenue ($11K from ChatGPT, $20K AI sales). This is much of what the SEO Believer brief plans, already live and proven, though their proof skews ecommerce/B2B, not local service businesses.
  • Boulder SEO Marketing runs an "AI SEO & GEO Online Summit," publishes a named GEO case study (Geneva Worldwide), and built a whole "Micro SEO Strategy" brand blending human + AI. Led by Chris Raulf, a visible AI/SEO personality. This is the closest analog to Annette's positioning, and the most direct threat on the GEO-expert angle.
  • Firestarter SEO explicitly optimizes content for AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, and backs it with hard client numbers. Award-recognized (#2 Denver on Clutch).
  • Taylor Scher productizes "AEO/GEO + LLM visibility tracking" right in his pricing tiers, but only for B2B SaaS, not local Front Range businesses.

Talks GEO, doesn't ship it:

  • Webolutions sells "LMO to GEO and AEO" and "AI answer ecosystems," but it reads as a service-menu addition on a 30-year-old agency, not demonstrated AI-citation proof.
  • Tactical SEO has a real GEO page and schema stack but shows no evidence of being cited itself.
  • Subsilio name-drops AEO and "LLM-SEO" with no llms.txt, no proof, and a heavy WordPress/Divi build that's harder for AI crawlers to parse.

Largely ignores GEO:

  • COSEOCO, NewStar SEO, and Blue Frog are classic local-SEO/HubSpot shops. They compete on Page-1 rankings, the Maps 3-pack, and (for COSEOCO) a 90-day traffic guarantee at low price points. AI search barely appears.
  • Ramblin Jackson uses AI internally to draft content but doesn't sell GEO. Different niche (national green-industry), so more a model than a competitor.

Common weaknesses across the field

Patterns Annette can exploit:

  1. GEO claimed, never proven on their own brand. Even the serious firms point to client results, not to "here's the AI answer that cites us, today." Nobody runs a public, dated, self-as-case-study citation tracker.
  2. Results in adjectives, not numbers. Tactical, Subsilio, NewStar, and Blue Frog lean on "proven," "leading," "99% success," "15+ years." The firms with real numbers (Volume Nine, Firestarter, Boulder SEO Marketing) are the minority.
  3. No local-AI-search proof. Even Volume Nine's AI results are ecommerce/B2B. Nobody owns "GEO for the Boulder/Denver service business" specifically.
  4. Generalists dilute the pitch. Subsilio (SEO 1 of 5), Blue Frog (HubSpot first), Webolutions (full agency) split focus. A pure SEO/GEO specialist reads sharper.
  5. Geo-swap and templated location pages. Tactical fakes Boulder presence with a swap template. Thin location pages are a soft target for genuinely written ones.
  6. The north Front Range is thin. Volume Nine, Subsilio, NewStar are Denver-only. Tactical is Colorado Springs. Boulder SEO Marketing is the main firm with a true Boulder footprint, which makes them the key local rival to study.

Where seobeliever.com wins, honestly

Edges Annette has today

  1. One verifiable result that beats a pile of superlatives. Bone Voyage DR 0.8 to 62 on zero paid advertising, 4,000+ dogs placed on organic traffic. Most of this field can't put a single clean before-and-after on the table. The honesty rail: a nonprofit with adoptable dogs earns links a service business never will, so the proof point is the method, not the raw metric.
  2. Genuine scientific rigor, not borrowed. Medical Technology and Biochemistry background makes the evidence-based positioning real. Tactical and Subsilio claim rigor; Annette can show the method.
  3. A weekly AI-citation tracking habit already running. The act of measuring AI visibility every week, with a log she can show, is itself a differentiator almost none of these firms have.
  4. GEO-native from day one, not bolted onto a legacy SEO menu like Webolutions or Blue Frog.

Edges the 90-day plan must create

  1. She's brand new (November 2026), one signed client, no results in yet. Real constraint, not a footnote.
  2. No domain age, no local-pack presence, no verified citations, no referring-domain base, no third-party reviews. Domain age and accumulated reviews are the only things on this list that money and effort can't instantly replicate.
  3. The GEO claim needs its own proof. Until seobeliever.com itself gets cited by an AI platform for a target query, "GEO consultant" is a promise. The weekly tracker is the path to converting it into evidence.

The honest warning

The self-proof citation tracker is the strongest differentiator on offer and the most copyable. Volume Nine already ships llms.txt and an AI-instructions page. If they noticed the local-service-business angle, they could stand up a public tracker fast, and Boulder SEO Marketing already has the GEO-expert brand to do the same. The moat is execution speed and consistency, not the idea. Treat the window as real but temporary.

Sharpened positioning

Most Colorado SEO firms argue that AI search matters. Annette shows it. She has one result she can prove, she measures AI citations every week, and she builds the visibility she sells on her own site first, in public, with the misses left in. The field divides into shops that talk GEO and a handful that ship it, but not one of them turns its own brand into the dated, falsifiable case study. That's the seat that's open. The Boulder business owner comparing five SEO sites doesn't need another firm promising Page 1. They need the one consultant who can point to the receipt instead of describing the feeling.

Individual teardowns

1. Volume Nine (V9 Digital) , volumenine.com

HQ: Real Denver office (1312 17th St), Denver-only (no Boulder/Longmont/Louisville pages).

Sells: Full-service SEO, PPC, content, and a serious GEO line.

GEO maturity: Very high. /services/geo, an "Appear in ChatGPT" landing page, a free GEO Grader tool, published llms.txt, and an /ai-instructions page built to court AI crawlers.

Proof: Strong. 25+ case studies with hard numbers, enterprise logos, 20 years in business, third-party review badges, and case studies with AI-attributed revenue ($11K ChatGPT, $20K AI sales).

Weaknesses: No north Front Range coverage. GEO proof skews ecommerce/B2B, thin on local service-business AI citation. No single named founder-expert voice.

Threat: High. The one firm doing GEO at a level the brief aspires to.

2. Boulder SEO Marketing , boulderseomarketing.com

HQ: Genuinely multi-office across Colorado (Boulder, Denver, Downtown Denver, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs). The most real Boulder footprint in this set.

Sells: "Micro SEO Strategy," a boutique blend of human insight and AI-assisted tactics, led by Chris Raulf, a visible AI/SEO personality. Services, pricing, SEO training, and an "AI SEO & GEO Online Summit."

GEO maturity: High. Publishes a named GEO case study (Geneva Worldwide), runs GEO/AI webinars and a summit, and brands AI-assisted SEO openly.

Proof: Strong. Many case studies with real percentages (e.g., 178% organic-click boost for a cat breeder, a Boulder birth center ranked #1), named founder, free SEO audit, free guides.

Weaknesses: The "Micro SEO" branding is heavy. Founder-led but agency-positioned. Beatable on pure local-service-business AI-citation proof and on a more rigorous, less markety voice.

Threat: High. The most direct rival on the exact GEO-expert + Colorado positioning Annette wants.

3. Webolutions , webolutionsmarketingagency.com

HQ: Real Denver, operating since 1994 ("Denver's leading SEO company," 30+ years).

Sells: Full agency: web design, SEO, PPC, CRO. Sells "answer engine optimization from LMO to GEO and AEO" and "AI answer ecosystems."

Proof: Big-name logos (IKEA, CenturyLink, Jab Broadband), Google Partner managing $20M+ in ad spend, IMA SEO Leader.

Weaknesses: Old-school, enterprise-scale, generalist. The GEO language reads bolted-on rather than demonstrated. No visible self-citation proof. Not a fit-or-price match for a $150K-$5M local service business.

Threat: Medium. Strong brand, weak on the specific local-GEO niche.

4. Firestarter SEO , firestarterseo.com

HQ: Colorado, founded 2009, serves six states.

Sells: SEO with explicit AI-search content optimization (AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity) plus local SEO and industry verticals (law, med spa, DTC).

Proof: Strong and specific. Laguna Med Spa (Parker, CO): 22 first-page rankings, 354% organic traffic, 173% conversions. Lampert & Walsh law firm: 60% more monthly visits, 42 qualified calls in a month. Ranked #2 Denver SEO agency on Clutch, 4.9 rating.

Weaknesses: Multi-state generalist agency feel; GEO is a content tactic, not a tracked, proven discipline. No public self-citation proof.

Threat: High. Real results plus AI-search messaging plus strong third-party validation.

5. Taylor Scher Consulting , taylorscherseo.com

HQ: Denver-based solo/fractional consultant, 5+ years, small team on purpose.

Sells: Tiered fractional SEO for B2B SaaS. "AEO/GEO + LLM visibility tracking" and "AI content workflow build-outs" are productized line items. Transparent pricing ($3,500 / $5,000+ tiers).

Proof: Niche credibility (B2B SaaS organic revenue), strong LinkedIn following (~20K), transparent pricing and packages.

Weaknesses: Wrong ICP. Built for B2B SaaS, not Boulder/Denver local service businesses. No local-search or GBP angle. This is a model for solo-consultant pricing transparency more than a head-to-head competitor.

Threat: Medium. Proves the solo-GEO model works, but isn't fighting for the same clients.

6. Tactical SEO Consulting

HQ: Monument (Colorado Springs metro). Boulder/Broomfield/Loveland pages are a geo-swap template; also lists Arizona towns. Serves "Colorado, Arizona, nationwide."

Sells: SEO + a genuinely built-out GEO page with per-platform strategy and a full schema stack ("we retest monthly").

Proof: Weak. Vertical-level claims and unverifiable superlatives ("99% success rate," "15+ years"). No named local clients, no Boulder address or phone.

Weaknesses: Not actually Boulder-local. Claims GEO capability without proving it on its own brand.

Threat: Medium. Mature on paper, hollow on proof.

7. Subsilio Consulting

HQ: Real Denver address (700 N. Colorado Blvd), Denver-only.

Sells: Five services with SEO as one of them. Blogs about AEO and "LLM-SEO."

Proof: Zero quantified results. Established domain (~2022), Clutch profile, consistent NAP.

Weaknesses: GEO in name only (no llms.txt, no demonstrated citations). Heavy WordPress/Divi build that's slow and harder for AI crawlers to parse. Generalist, keyword-stuffed filler, no pricing clarity.

Threat: Medium. Entrenched locally, soft everywhere that matters for AI search.

8. COSEOCO (Colorado SEO Company) , coseoco.com

HQ: Castle Rock, CO, operating since 2017, statewide (Denver, Colorado Springs pages).

Sells: Industry-vertical local SEO (construction, contractors, real estate, insurance, legal, medical). GBP management and localized content.

Proof: Case studies with traffic/revenue numbers and a 90-day organic-traffic guarantee (free work until they succeed). Low entry price: construction SEO from $499, real estate from $1,499/mo.

Weaknesses: Little AI-search emphasis. Competes on price and guarantee, not on GEO or rigor. Low price anchors them in a different market segment.

Threat: Medium. Strong local-SEO machine, absent on GEO.

9. NewStar SEO , newstarseo.com

HQ: Real Denver address (1685 S Colorado Blvd), local.

Sells: Full-service local SEO ("Page 1 + Google Maps 3-pack"), social, web design, Google Ads. Vertical experience with therapists, medical, restoration, HVAC, pressure washing.

Proof: Testimonial-style reviews ("ranking top 3 in Maps in less than a month"), but no quantified case studies. Facebook/Yelp/Instagram presence.

Weaknesses: No GEO/AI-search mention at all. Proof is anecdotal. Classic local shop.

Threat: Low. Not competing on the AI-search frontier.

10. Ramblin Jackson , ramblinjackson.com

HQ: Lyons, CO. National niche: landscaping, snow, and green-industry contractors.

Sells: Branding, web design, and SEO for the green industry. Uses AI internally to draft content, then refines for E-E-A-T (not a sold GEO service).

Proof: Strong within its niche: 300+ landscaping clients reporting revenue lifts, named CEO (Jack Jostes), client stories.

Weaknesses: Different niche entirely (green industry, national). Not a Boulder-general-SEO competitor. AI is an internal tool, not a client-facing GEO offering.

Threat: Low as a competitor, but a useful model: a tightly-niched, founder-led, proof-rich solo-to-boutique operation. Worth studying for how Annette could own a vertical.

11. Blue Frog , bluefrogdm.com

HQ: Denver (Cherry Creek), expanded into Colorado by acquiring eLumina Communications.

Sells: HubSpot-centric growth agency: web design, SEO, content, social, print. Elite HubSpot Partner.

Proof: HubSpot partner status, agency scale, multi-service.

Weaknesses: HubSpot-first, not search-first. No real AI-search/GEO offering. Different lane (inbound/marketing-automation agency).

Threat: Low. Not a direct SEO/GEO competitor for a local service business.

Confidence note: the three firms torn down in the earlier deep run (Volume Nine, Tactical, Subsilio) had full-site extraction. The other eight are built from their own site content plus directory data gathered via search, which is reliable for positioning and proof claims but lighter on schema/technical internals. Every number cited (e.g., Firestarter's 354%, V9's AI revenue) is a self-reported claim from the firm's own marketing, not independently verified. Directionally accurate, not audited.
