What 8,875 menopause comments actually say
Three viral TikToks, every comment pulled and classified. The audience isn't shopping for protocols. They're asking to be told they still exist.
The finding
They're telling you menopause is erasing who they are, not just how they feel. The posts talk about hot flashes and brain fog and HRT. Nobody is naming the identity dissolution that has women awake at 3am feeling invisible to themselves.
Pain and identity together are 92% of all signal. Action is 6%. Objection is 1%.
The four buckets
Every comment with text was sorted into one bucket, or into noise. Noise is emoji-only, friend-tagging, and unrelated chatter, and on a viral video it is a large share of everything.
Pain
4,030
Raw description of the felt problem.
Identity
1,079
Tribal self-description. Being seen, or not.
Action
330
A concrete next-step question.
Objection
70
Pushback, doubt, fear about solutions.
Three videos, three different audiences
Shown as share of signal, so noise is excluded from the four percentages. Each video is the top 650 comments by engagement, which keeps the comparison fair.
| Video | Comments | 🔥 Pain | 🪞 Identity | 🎯 Action | 🛡️ Objection | Noise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| @.gma80 Personal testimony. "I've never read anything more factual." | 8,194 | 63.2% | 26.7% | 9.9% | 0.2% | 30.2% |
| @husbands4menopause Aimed at partners, not sufferers. | 5,401 | 55.6% | 24.4% | 16.0% | 4.0% | 45.9% |
| @lila.perimenopaus.relief Symptom prompt. Almost nobody wastes a keystroke. | 14,500 | 94.4% | 2.7% | 2.1% | 0.8% | 4.3% |
Lila's video is the outlier worth studying. 94% pain and only 4% noise, because the video prompts for symptoms and the audience answers literally. The husbands video is its mirror: four times the action language and the most objection of the three, because that audience wants something to do. Same topic, opposite posture. What you ask for is what you get.
What they actually said
Public comments, most-liked first, reproduced without usernames. The language is the evidence. Who said it isn't ours to publish.
🔥 Pain
- 6,795
anxiety, fatigue, wanting to be alone all the time and cant find anything that makes me happy
- 4,099
I just want to be alone alllllllll the time
- 4,014
Insomnia and this overwhelming feeling of lost … lost opportunities, lost youth, lost me as a person… its very hard
- 3,559
Does anyone heart races sometimes and feeling anxious on the inside
- 2,129
The loss of libido is the hardest hit for me. Even more than the sleep problems.
- 1,267
My brain fog is terrible. Nothing is helping this.
🪞 Identity
- 3,725
Husband here…. Feel like this needs to be talked about more. I am doing my best to support, but it's hard not to internalize
- 3,667
I'm seriously crying right now. I feel so seen.
- 610
sometimes we feel like a totally different person in our own body
- 153
That is exactly how I feel every single day! Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone
🛡️ Objection, and it isn't what you'd guess
Only 70 comments in 8,875. Not one of the most-liked is about whether hormone therapy is safe. Every one is anger at being dismissed.
- 855
As a husband of a wife going through this, I find it disgusting that the medical field is so uneducated in perimenopause
- 508
Half the people on the planet deal with this yet no one studies it well enough to help
- 190
My medical knowledge about perimenopause came from Google and TikTok, not my doctor.
- 168
I have all my life only heard about hotflashes. That was the easiest one. No one talked about the rest.
- 150
I keep being told it cant be perimenopause as my blood tests are normal
This reframes the content strategy. The expected objection was "isn't HRT dangerous?" It barely exists. The real objection is "why won't anyone help me?" You aren't writing against skepticism about treatment. You're writing for women who already want it and can't get anyone to take them seriously.
The methodology finding that saves money
Apify returns comments in descending engagement order. This was assumed, then tested against the full 7,575-comment pull, and it holds hard.
The first 1,000 comments hold 70% of every like on the video, and all 50 of the 50 most-liked comments. Past roughly comment 4,500, the mean like count is zero. Pulling all 7,575 cost $7.58 and bought about $1.00 of signal. Pull the top 1,000 and stop. The tail is emoji.
Drafts, not deliverables
Generated from the buckets and then cut down. Everything here still needs your hand on it. Read the three problems below before you use a word of it.
Hook openers
- I didn't know what was wrong with me. I just knew I wanted to be left alone, all the time, and that scared me more than anything else.
- Nobody told me menopause would feel like watching myself disappear. The words I used every day, the joy I used to feel, the person I recognized in the mirror.
- The worst part isn't the hot flashes. It's the flatness. Nothing sounds fun, nothing feels good, and you start wondering if this is just who you are now.
- I was so tired I couldn't think straight. Not "I need a nap" tired. The kind where you wake up after nine hours and still feel like you've been hit by a truck.
- The loneliness is the part nobody talks about. You're fighting something inside your own body that the people around you can't see and don't understand.
Brand statements
- I know what it's like to feel like a stranger in your own body, to worry your marriage won't survive what you can't explain. I'll tell you what's happening and what might help, no varnished wellness talk.
- I'm 57, APOE4 homozygous, and I take my estrogen like my brain depends on it. Because it does. I read the research so you don't have to, and I'll tell you plainly what I find.
- No one warned us about the blank mind, the crushing fatigue, the tears at nothing. I've been there, and I'm building the resource I wish I'd had at 2am.
Action formats
- The One to Send Your Husband. A carousel that says what you're too exhausted to explain. Built to be forwarded straight into his texts.
- Is It Perimenopause, or Something Else?. The labs to ask for when a doctor says you're too young. Take it to the appointment.
- The 3 AM Club. For the women awake at 3:17 with a racing heart. What's happening and what helps.
- Weird Symptoms Nobody Warned You About. Itchy ears, tinnitus, legs full of cement. Naming the strange stuff so the midnight googling stops.
- How to Talk to Your Kids About This. Scripts for adult children. No jargon, just language they'll actually hear.
What's wrong with the drafts
The hooks invent your biography
Written in first person by a model working from strangers' comments, so several assert things about your life that may be false: a daughter who moved back in, crying on a bathroom floor at 49, telling a doctor you feared early Alzheimer's. Keep the structure, check every fact against your actual life, or rewrite in third person. The five kept above are the ones that read as universal rather than autobiographical, but even these need your eye.
One brand statement claimed you made the video
It opened with "You've seen the video that made you cry at 3am. I'm the woman behind it." That's @.gma80's video, not yours. Cut before it reached this page. Flagging it because it shows the failure mode: the model will happily borrow someone else's credit.
The myth-busts need real citations
Held back entirely. The draft made specific medical claims (NICE guidance on diagnosing without labs, HRT with a family history of breast cancer, typical onset age) that are roughly right but oversimplified, and the NICE line is wrong for women under 40. Every one needs a verified DOI in the ResearchLibrary before it goes near a reader.
How this was built
- Source
- Three TikTok videos, comments pulled via Apify's clockworks/tiktok-comments-scraper. TikTok serves no comments to a logged-out browser, so free scrapers cannot do this.
- Volume
- 8,875 comments pulled, 8,786 classified. 7,575 from @.gma80, 650 each from the other two.
- Cost
- $8.86 on Apify at a measured $1.00 per 1,000 comments. Both prices on Apify's own page ($0.50 and $5.00) are wrong. Classification added roughly $0.05 on OpenRouter.
- Classification
- deepseek-v4-flash via OpenRouter, batched, three retry passes. 7,491 of 7,491 classified on the main video with zero failures.
- Known limit
- @.gma80 is 92% of its comments; the run stalled at 7,575 of 8,194 and was killed. The other two are the top 650 only, which the decay data says is the high-signal slice.
- Bias to remember
- A single classifier assigned every bucket, so its judgment is baked into every number here. The pain-dominance is large enough to survive that. The 1% objection figure is small enough that it is worth a human spot-check.
