Menopause and HRT clinician training: the light, credible on-ramps

Research for Plan B, recruiting generalist female telehealth providers into menopause care. The goal is to identify the easiest credible path to competence, short of the full MSCP competency exam. All three lead options accept NPs and PAs, not just physicians, and all teach actual prescribing rather than awareness alone.

The recommendation

Rachel Rubin's course plus The Menopause Society's “Menopause 101” is the fast, credible on-ramp. Treat full MSCP certification as the optional later gold-standard credential, not the entry requirement.

Ranked from lightest credible burden to heaviest

Option Format Time Cost CME or credential Open to NP/PA? Teaches prescribing? Credibility
Rachel Rubin, MD, “Hormone Therapy for Early Adopters” Self-paced, on-demand video Short, commute-length modules $1,650 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credits, ACCME/ACPE/ANCC accredited via PACE Yes, any clinician caring for women Yes. Evaluation, prescribing, and estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone dosing, including “How I Prescribe” modules High, mainstream and evidence-based
Rachel Rubin live summer cohort Live, five weeks Five weeks About $250 Cohort Yes Yes High, and the least expensive way to learn from Rubin
The Menopause Society, “Menopause 101” Self-paced, on demand About four hours Society CME pricing 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits, including 2.0 pharmacotherapeutic hours. NPs and PAs receive a certificate of participation. Yes Foundational through early management Highest institutional brand, with no exam
Dr. Louise Newson, “Confidence in Menopause/Hormones” Self-paced Not listed Not listed UK CPD, not US ACCME Yes Yes, practical Good content, but limited US credential value
WorldLink Medical, “Mastering the Foundations of BHRT” Live, three days Three days $1,095 to $1,695 CME Yes Yes, hands-on Flag: commercial BHRT and “bioidentical” positioning lowers credibility for a mainstream practice
Full MSCP certification, the heaviest baseline 100-question proctored exam Two-hour exam plus preparation $400 member or $725 nonmember Exam-based credential, valid for three years Yes It's a credential, not a course The field's gold standard

Credibility flags

  • WorldLink Medical BHRT, Biote, and pellet-focused certifications sit in the commercially compromised BHRT space. They're useful to know about, but they aren't what a provider with a mainstream evidence-based brand should lead with.
  • Newson's course is excellent but UK-accredited. It doesn't carry the same US CME credit value.
