Med Spas Boulder: SEO and GEO plan
Written 26 July 2026. Two parts: what is already built and live, and what to do next in priority order. GEO means generative engine optimization, getting quoted by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, which behaves differently from classic SEO and matters more for a niche this small.
The one decision that gates everything
Every page is currently set to noindex. That is deliberate. The site lives at annettethompson.com/medspa-boulder/ while it is being built, and letting Google index it there would create duplicate content competing with medspasboulder.com later, on the exact keywords you want.
Nothing in search or AI answers happens until the site moves to its own domain and that tag comes off. That move is the single highest-value action available, and everything below assumes it happens first.
Already built and live
| Asset | Status | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 235 provider profile pages | Done | The main indexable surface. Each targets "[provider name] reviews", a real long-tail query with buying intent. |
| 11 city hub pages | Done | Targets "med spa boulder", "med spa longmont" and so on. These are the money keywords. |
| 2 treatment guides | Done | Botox and laser hair removal, your highest-CPC terms ($16 and $61). |
| Methodology, disclosure, independence, about, contact | Done | The E-E-A-T backbone. On a health topic Google weights these heavily. |
| Schema markup throughout | Done | Organization, Person, MedicalBusiness, Review, FAQPage, ItemList, BreadcrumbList. |
| sitemap.xml, 255 URLs | Done | Ready to submit the day the domain moves. |
| Internal linking | Done | 469 links from the rankings page, cities in every footer, services linked to guides. No orphan pages. |
| Unique title and meta description per page | Done | No duplicates across 255 pages. |
| Answer-first opening on every page | Done | This is the GEO move. See below. |
Why this site is unusually well positioned for AI answers
Generative engines quote sources that state a specific, checkable fact in a self-contained sentence, and they strongly favor content with visible methodology. Most local "best of" pages have neither. This one has both, plus something nobody else in the market has: original data.
- Original statistics. "Botox runs a median of $10 per unit among Boulder providers who publish pricing" and "only 16 of 142 local injectable providers publish pricing at all" are facts that exist nowhere else on the internet. Original numbers get cited, and citations are how you appear in AI answers.
- A published rubric. Engines are far more willing to quote a ranking when the method is stated and dated. Yours is.
- Legal specificity. The Colorado Rule 800 section answers "who can legally inject Botox in Colorado" more precisely than most sources. That is a question people ask assistants directly.
- FAQ schema in question form. Each FAQ answer is written to stand alone when lifted out of context.
What to do next, in priority order
- Move to medspasboulder.com and remove noindex. Nothing else matters until this happens. Cloudflare Pages, same static build, roughly an hour of work.
- Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Verify the domain, submit the sitemap. Bing matters more than its market share suggests because it feeds ChatGPT search.
- Claim a Google Business Profile for the site itself if you ever take local enquiries, and get the site listed in local directories. Local relevance signals compound slowly, so start early.
- Write the remaining treatment guides. Filler, microneedling, CoolSculpting, IV therapy, HRT, medical weight loss. Each one is a keyword cluster you already have the data for, and each adds citable statistics.
- Add the in-person visit content. Firsthand reporting is the one thing competitors cannot copy or generate, and it is exactly what Google's helpful-content system says it rewards. It also completes the two missing score dimensions.
- Get the first real backlinks. Boulder Weekly, local Facebook groups, the providers themselves. A provider who scores well will often link to their score, which is a free, relevant, editorial link. Consider a small "as scored by" badge for the top scorers.
- Add a comparison page or two. "Botox vs Dysport near Boulder" and "med spa vs dermatologist for injectables" are high-intent, low-competition, and naturally quotable.
- Track AI citations, not just rankings. Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity "best med spa in Boulder" monthly and record whether you are cited. That is the real scoreboard for this niche.
Two honest warnings
Rating schema on other people's businesses. The profile pages mark up your editorial score as a Review authored by Med Spas Boulder, which is the correct and honest structure. Google is strict about self-serving review markup, so do not let anyone later restructure it to look like the businesses are rating themselves. If a rich result never appears, that is acceptable; the markup is still doing useful work for AI engines.
YMYL scrutiny is real. This is health-adjacent content that recommends providers. Google holds it to a higher standard than a recipe blog. The medical humility framing, the visible methodology, the named author with relevant credentials, and the disclosure pages are not decoration, they are the reason this can rank at all. Keep them current and dated.
Realistic expectations
The keyword volumes here are small: roughly 260 monthly searches for "botox boulder" and 140 for "med spa boulder". You are not going to see impressive traffic graphs, and that was never the point. Difficulty is near zero, advertiser CPCs are high, and the readers who do arrive are days away from spending several hundred dollars. Two hundred of the right visitors a month is a business. Twenty thousand of the wrong ones is not.
Expect three to six months from the domain move before rankings settle, and faster movement in AI answers than in classic search, because generative engines weight freshness and specificity more heavily than domain age.
