Re: Final QA pass on the 88-page Tuesday-deadline PDF (Rebuilding/report/Rebuilding-Audit.pdf)
Prepared by: Charlie (Opus 4.7), MyExecAssistant worker-coding lane, packet 2026-04-25-004-rebuilding-tuesday-proofreading-pass
Source inspected: all 88 pages (read in 9 parallel chunks; no gaps), plus report/report.html for source-line references.
Executive summary
🚨 Recommendation: FIX-THEN-SHIP. Do not send Bob the current Rebuilding-Audit.pdf as-is.
| Severity | Count | Time-to-fix (est.) |
|---|---|---|
| 🔴 Red (must-fix-before-Tuesday) | 7 | ~45 min total (all in report.html + 1 re-render) |
| 🟡 Yellow (should-fix or confirm with Annette) | 6 | ~15 min decisions + ~10 min edits |
| 🟢 Green (minor polish; ship-OK without) | 3 | optional |
The headline problem: the 88-page audit-only PDF still contains at least 4 distinct Phase-2 leaks (the Bruce-Fisher-book-replacement recommendation that is supposed to be deferred until Phase 2). Two are oblique (mentions of "the book + Chapters program," "a published book" as a future state); two are explicit (§27 Q17 directly asks Bob whether he'd write his own book; the appendix-pointer language at the end). Per ~/memory/topics/boulder-move-secrets.md, this entire recommendation must NOT appear in the Tuesday deliverable.
The other showstopper: the Appendix B reference and final-page sign-off both promise the 37-page Brand Voice Guidelines as an appendix that follows. In the 88-page audit-only PDF, that appendix doesn't exist — the doc ends abruptly at p.88 after a sentence that says "follows as an appendix." Bob will scroll for something that isn't there and conclude the PDF is broken.
Drift check (myself): I did NOT surface or restate the Phase-2 book-replacement recommendation in any of my suggested fixes below. Every suggested fix moves the doc away from that recommendation, never toward it.
Standing-rule check (all 8 rules)
| # | Rule | Verdict | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 🚨 Phase-2 book-replacement leak | ❌ FAIL | 4 distinct leaks present. §23 (p.78), §25 (p.81), §27 Q17 (p.86–87), and the closing appendix pointer (p.88). See R1, R2, R3, R7 below. |
| 2 | 🚨 Boulder/Bob-personal-relationship leak | ✅ PASS | Doc treats Bob as a normal client and Boulder/Niwot as the target market. No mention of the rent-trade arrangement, Annette's move, the personal relationship, or any "free consulting" framing. The "About the engagement" cost note (p.13) frames Annette's strategy/PM/copywriting as "a gift to you, not a line item" — this is consistent with public framing and does not hint at personal context. |
| 3 | Page-numbers footnote | ❌ FAIL | TOC tail (p.4) still reads "Page numbers are approximate; final pagination locks on PDF render." Signals "draft" to a CS/MBA reader. See R4. |
| 4 | [date] placeholder remnants |
✅ PASS | None found in source HTML or rendered PDF. Agent 003's prior fix held. |
| 5 | "Welcome back from holiday" line | ⚠️ CONFIRM | Line is present at end of Letter to Bob (p.8). Flag Y1 — confirm with Annette that Bob's holiday timing is still accurate. |
| 6 | "$100k-caliber strategy engagement" framing | ⚠️ CONFIRM | Present on p.3 (TOC intro). Flag Y2. |
| 7 | "3× call bookings, 3× seminar enrollments" | ⚠️ CONFIRM | Present on cover (p.1) and §1 modeled funnel (p.10–11). Flag Y3. |
| 8 | "Annette Thompson" name | ✅ PASS | Used 21 times throughout; no other rendering of her name found. Cover ("Prepared by Annette Thompson"), p.6 team table, p.8 letter sign-off, p.9 "About AI's role" callout, etc. all consistent. |
Net standing-rule score: 2 red fails (rule 1, rule 3), 3 yellow confirmations (rules 5, 6, 7), 3 clean passes (rules 2, 4, 8).
Findings table (sorted by severity then page)
🔴 RED — must fix before Tuesday
| ID | Page | Section / location | Exact quoted phrase | Suggested fix | Why it's red |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R1 | 4 | TOC, Appendix block (line 932 in report.html) |
"Brand Voice Guidelines — the full 37-page voice & tone document — 108" | Delete the entire Appendix B row from the TOC. The 88-page audit-only PDF does not contain this appendix. Promising it and not delivering it makes the doc look broken. (Keep Appendix A, "Source documents referenced in this audit" on p.107 — but verify A actually renders in this 88-page cut; if not, delete A too.) | Bob will look for p.108 and the doc ends at p.88. |
| R2 | 4 | TOC tail (line 936) | "Page numbers are approximate; final pagination locks on PDF render." | Delete this footnote entirely. The PDF IS the final render — the footnote is a holdover from an earlier draft state. To a CS/MBA reader this signals "they're sending me a draft." | Standing rule explicit. |
| R3 | 78 | §23 / 24.1 intro paragraph (line 2695) | "…the recommendation here is to stand up the structure now, quietly, so that when the book + Chapters program launches, the plumbing is already correct." | Rewrite to: "…stand up the structure now, quietly, so that when the business expands beyond the single Niwot/Denver operating model, the plumbing is already correct." Removes both "book" and "Chapters program" Phase-2 hooks. | Phase-2 leak — names the deferred book directly. |
| R4 | 81 | §25 / 26.4 "Sale value, modeled" (line 2817) | "A well-run Rebuilding Seminars five years from today, with 15-20 active Chapters, a published book, captured curriculum…" | Rewrite to: "A well-run Rebuilding Seminars five years from today, with multiple Front-Range cohorts running in parallel, captured curriculum, and an operating P&L showing $600-800k/yr with 40% margins…" Removes "active Chapters" and "published book." | Phase-2 leak — names the deferred book + the licensing program built around it. |
| R5 | 86–87 | §27 / Q17 (line 2914) | "Would you be open, in principle, to writing an original book on your evolved Rebuilding framework? The book would not be a solo from-scratch effort. It would be built with AI collaboration on structure and drafting…" (entire bullet) | Delete Q17 in its entirety, including the three sub-bullets ("Credibility multiplier," "Succession and continuity," "Optional future: licensed Rebuilding in other cities") AND the wrap paragraph ("We are asking only whether you are open in principle…"). The "How we'll move" callout below still works. | Phase-2 leak — this is the EXPLICIT book-replacement question that boulder-move-secrets.md says is deferred to Phase 2. THE single most important fix in this document. |
| R6 | 86 | §27 heading + intro | The "A phase-two opener for you to consider" sub-heading just above Q17 | Delete the sub-heading too (it only existed to introduce Q17). | Without Q17 the heading orphans. |
| R7 | 88 | Appendix block (line 2936) | "The full Rebuilding Seminars Brand Voice Guidelines document follows as an appendix, 37 pages of voice, tone, frozen phrases, example rewrites, and the palette/typography baseline that this audit builds on." | Rewrite to: "The full Rebuilding Seminars Brand Voice Guidelines document is available as a separate companion document (delivered alongside this audit). It contains 37 pages of voice, tone, frozen phrases, example rewrites, and the palette/typography baseline that this audit builds on." | Rule 1 + cosmetic. The appendix doesn't follow in this 88-page cut — promise breaks immediately. Annette can decide whether to ship the brand-voice PDF as a second attachment (Q1 in Agent 003's gap analysis defaulted to "yes, both as separate attachments"). |
🟡 YELLOW — confirm with Annette or judgment-call edits
| ID | Page | Section | Exact quoted phrase | Suggested action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Y1 | 8 | Letter to Bob, closing (line 1017) | "Welcome back from holiday. Let's build." | Confirm: Is Bob actually returning from a holiday on/around Tuesday 2026-04-28? If yes, line stays. If no (or uncertain), change to "Let's build." (3 words shorter, no timing assumption). |
| Y2 | 3 | TOC intro (line 862) | "A $100k-caliber strategy engagement delivered as one document." | Confirm: Is Annette comfortable with $100k anchoring her consulting brand publicly via this doc? It sets a precedent. Recommend keeping it (it primes Bob for the value he's receiving) but flag for explicit go/no-go. |
| Y3 | 1 + 10–11 | Cover sub + §1 funnel modeling | "with a plan to 3× call bookings and 3× seminar enrollments over the next twelve months" + the "Compound effect on booked calls ≈ 3.0×" model | Confirm: Has Bob signed off on 3× as the 12-month commitment? If this is Annette's modeled stretch goal vs. a number Bob has agreed to, soften the cover line to "with a plan to materially grow call bookings and seminar enrollments over the next twelve months" and let the §1 funnel model present 3× as the modeled scenario. |
| Y4 | 8 | Letter to Bob (line ~1009) | "Annette mentioned your CS and MBA background and your instinct for rigor." | This is third-person Annette referring to herself in past tense via "we" voice. Reads slightly weird because the letter is signed by Annette ("Prepared with care by Annette Thompson"). Suggested: rewrite to "I know you have a CS and MBA background and an instinct for rigor." OR keep the "we" voice but use "Bob, given your CS and MBA background and instinct for rigor…" Minor — voice consistency only. |
| Y5 | 12 | §1 closing callout "Next step, sixteen discovery questions" | "They are collected in §27 (the final section before the appendix). Annette will pass them to you on WhatsApp in small batches so you can answer between things on holiday." | Two issues: (a) "sixteen discovery questions" — after deleting Q17 (R5) it becomes 16 again, so the count holds ✓. (b) "between things on holiday" reinforces Y1 holiday assumption — same fix as Y1: if no holiday, soften to "in small batches sized for a phone screen." (c) "before the appendix" — after R1 there's no appendix; soften to "the final section." |
| Y6 | 87 | §27 "How we'll move" callout | "Annette will pass these to you in a WhatsApp thread, three or four at a time, sized for a phone screen. Your answers come back as voice notes or text, we capture them, you get back to your holiday, and by the time you're home the strategy memo is ready for your review." | "you get back to your holiday" + "by the time you're home" — same Y1 holiday-assumption issue. If Bob isn't actually on holiday, soften to: "Your answers come back as voice notes or text, we capture them, and we'll have the strategy memo ready for your review within ~2 weeks of receiving the last batch." |
🟢 GREEN — optional polish
| ID | Page | Detail | Suggested action |
|---|---|---|---|
| G1 | 19 | "What graduates actually say" — quote attributions read as ", REBUILDING SEMINARS GRADUATE" with a leading comma | Strip the leading comma in the attribution-line CSS — looks slightly off in the rendered PDF. |
| G2 | 30 | §3.4 sub-numbering ("3.4 What this tells us strategically") immediately after §3.3 — the §3.X positioning matrix sub-section numbering is consistent within §3, but §7.1, §7.2 etc. appear inside §15 (Local marketing playbook) which is mis-numbered. Same for §4.1, §4.2 inside §8 (GBP). | Consider renumbering sub-sections to match parent section number (so §15.1 not §7.1, §8.1 not §4.1). Cosmetic only — no reader will care, but a CS/MBA reader might raise an eyebrow at the inconsistency. |
| G3 | 27 | §3 page heading numbered "SECTION 7 / Website issues, annotated" → numbered §3.1, §3.2, §3.3, §3.4 sub-headings beneath it | Same numbering issue — the section is §7 in the TOC but the sub-numbering uses §3.X. Either renumber to §7.1 etc. or accept that this is purely cosmetic. |
Time-to-fix estimates (per severity bucket)
| Bucket | Action | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 🔴 Red (R1–R7) | Edit report/report.html at lines 920+932+936+2695+2817+2914+2936 (7 edits, all surgical), then node render.mjs to regenerate PDF |
~45 min total (15 min editing + 5 min render + 25 min full re-read of the ~6 pages affected to confirm flow) |
| 🟡 Yellow (Y1–Y6) | Annette decisions on Y1, Y2, Y3 (5 min). If Y1=no, edit Y1+Y5+Y6 simultaneously (10 min). Y4 voice tweak (3 min). | ~15 min decisions + ~15 min edits |
| 🟢 Green (G1–G3) | Skip for Tuesday; revisit before Phase 2 ships. | 0 min for Tuesday |
Total ETA from "now" to "shippable PDF": ~75 min of focused work, of which ~30 min is editing time and ~45 min is render + re-read + Annette decisions.
What I did NOT change (intentionally)
- I did NOT touch
report.html. This log is read-only — Annette decides which fixes to apply and when. - I did NOT regenerate the PDF. That's the next step after edits land.
- I did NOT modify the for-Bob bundled PDF at the project root, the brand-voice-bundled PDF, or any of the audit/strategy/brand source files.
Drift check (self-audit)
Per the packet's drift-signal requirement: did I accidentally surface the Phase-2 book-replacement recommendation into my suggested fixes?
No. Every R3, R4, R5, R7 fix moves the document away from naming "book," "Chapters program," "active Chapters," "writing an original book," "licensed Rebuilding in other cities," or any directional phrasing toward independent IP. The fixes substitute neutral business-expansion language ("multiple Front-Range cohorts running in parallel," "the business expands beyond the single Niwot/Denver operating model") that lets the doc breathe without committing Annette to the Phase-2 conversation prematurely.
I also confirmed I did NOT introduce any Boulder/Bob-personal-relationship/rent-trade language into the suggested fixes — every rewrite stays in the public consultant-to-client register.
